In Seahorse class we have been exploring the Jewish Festival of Sukkot. We found out that Jewish people build shelters called Sukkahs and live in them for a week as part of the celebrations. The children were given the task of working together to create a model Sukkah using matchsticks or lolly-sticks and blu-tack. Here are the results!
Orca class were allowed to use lolly sticks, matchsticks and blu-tac to make their Sukkahs. Sukkahs were originally built by Jewish farmers for shelter and to store their crops in during the harvest. Jewish families sometimes build Sukkahs to celebrate the harvest festival of Sukkot. During Sukkot the Sukkahs would be decorated with fruits and families may choose to eat and sleep in their Sukkahs.
